About Me

Chris Roque, LCSW ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฝ

I am a second-gen, queer-identified, Filipino-American and have been a practicing social worker for the past decade.

After graduating from San Francisco State University with a degree in Sociology in 2008, I found myself working in the tech industry. Fast forward a year and the tech bubble burst, I found myself unemployed and lost. I transitioned into the non-profit sector working as a vocational rehabilitation counselor at a community mental health agency in San Francisco. I taught and developed a computer literacy curriculum for adults interested in re-entry into the workforce. Here I worked with therapists, social workers, and other mental health providers to coordinate care. With the support of my peers and mentoring from colleagues, I was able to thrive in this setting and found my passion in Social Work. When it came time to transition, I set my sights on New York and began my graduate program at NYU's Silver School of Social Work in 2011.

As a therapist, I practice from a relationally focused perspective โ€“ I see our suffering as symptoms of dysfunctional patterns of relating โ€“ to self or others. By exploring the root causes of our suffering, we can better address the demands of our current circumstances with grace + compassion.
